About the work:
Gods Own Country (Albion) is a flailing mess of misdirected rage with its ankle firmly caught in the cattle grid of political jeopardy. Masculine intimacy and insecurity collide with an ham fisted urge to “just do” regardless of consequence. white albamal is smothered over my sweaty pink nipples. the choir boys sing a ghost song on repeat and you get a free Pimms if you stay long enough.
About the artist:
Ben Mills is a dyslexic baker from Yorkshire. He performs weekly ritualised group performances that explore the immediacy of corporeal experience by testing the limits of the physical body. these experiences are distilled and presented to audiences through the lense of art.
The piece is a contemporary dance work. At the entrance of the performance space you will be met by a waiter who will ask you for a drinks order. The options are a pint of Ale, a glass of Pimms or cup of Tea. The waiter will serve you your drink and invite you to enter the room and sit at the only chair in the room. As you enter, three singers will be stood on a balcony above singing a traditional folk song. In the room will be a naked man covered completely in white chalk dust and sizeable lumps of chalk scattered around the room. The man will run, jump, dive and stand around the room as you sit with your drink in the seat. When you have finished your drink the waiter will beckon you out of the room.
